Greg Thorpe is a writer, curator, creative producer and queer arts programmer living in Manchester. He has written fiction; art, film and theatre criticism; cultural journalism; and historical and educational material. His collaborative art project ‘A mile of black paper’ provokes responses to teaching about HIV and AIDS, past and present.

His current writing project is ‘The Years’, a collection of queer narratives inspired by historical settings, and yearning; both the yearning of queer people for a visible historical past, and the yearning of queer ancestors for love, sex, dignity, and emancipated futures.

In ‘1961’ a young man accidentally finds himself at “the greatest night in showbiz history” when Judy Garland plays Carnegie Hall. ‘Three Sailors’ imagines historical desire and early HIV transmission through literary-inspired fantasy. ‘In Brompton Cemetery, 2012’ is both cruise narrative and ghost story.

This will be followed by a Q&A hosted by Anne Louise Kershaw.
